Possible inter-uni tournament

I know there's been talk here lately of (tournament) paintball making it into the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), although there's been a significant lack of progress since a couple of weeks ago - I'm hoping stuff is going on behind the scenes.

However, here at Southampton University, the club, while mainly woodsball and scenario, has just bought our own Sup'air field. Strictly speaking, I bought it, but anyway. We are in the process of organising a tournament for the clubs and societies at Southampton University.

Here's a suggestion, based on what we're looking at for our clubs and societies tournament, of where we go next:

A tournament for university teams (any number of teams per uni). Probably held near Southampton, exact location tbc.

Price: ~£200/team including all paint (playing limited paint, quantity to be decided, format) hire of air tank (no own air tanks) and, if necessary, anything else needed.
Teams would be 5-man, but probably with rolling subs.
Field layout will be decided once I've got my head around what bunkers we actually have.

It's an idea I've had floating around in my mind. If we can run it where we want to run it, then there's a travelodge or something like that about 10 minutes walk away.

Would just like to gauge interest really so if you're interested in this, please drop me a PM. I don't need firm "yes I'm up for this" yet, I just want to know that if we can come to some common ground regards timing and pricing, then would people be up for it?

i would be interested, though why cant i use my own air tank, can i use my own gun?

It's just an idea at the moment - exact specifics to be confirmed nearer the time. The main gist of it is, we're trying to keep the safety manageable from our point of view. Air tanks are one of our biggest pains from an H&S perspective, and that's why we said that. Obviously we may rethink this nearer the time. Own markers are perfectly ok, but obviously need Chronoing.

How do you know about the BUCS considering paintball? I'm sure you've heard of the uni paint tournament being set up but that's unofficial I believe.

I've set up a society for UAL in London so we'd be interested and as the largest and most successful arts university I'd push so much to get it register in the BUSC. I'm thinking we need a way to get all universities connected, I know UWE have a crazy amount of ballers. Let me know what you think.

BUCS - Please see the other thread. I've been talking to some of the guys at other unis and they are thinking about trying to get paintball BUCSified. I didn't think I'd said that BUCS themselves are considering it. We need 20 teams for them them to start considering it properly.

Could everyone who's interested in either an inter-uni league, or BUCS or both, please email me on chris {at} supc.org.uk so I can try and get something organised? I'm thinking that at least all the uni club captains need to meet up at some point after summer exams.
